Light detection and ranging (LiDAR) is the technology that measures the distance from an object by illuminating it with a laser light. At the same time, by scanning the surrounding environment with a very narrow laser beam, a LiDAR can return a high-resolution three-dimensional map. A LiDAR typically includes different components: lasers, photodetectors, beam steering element and read-out integrated circuits (ROICs) with time-of-flight (ToF) capability to measure distance by illuminating a target and analyzing the reflected light.
